Stocks continue falling

Stocks continued to drop for the second consecutive day although the turnover experienced a rise today.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), fell 9 points, or 0.15 per cent, to 6,180.

The DS30, the blue-chip index, rose 0.02 per cent to 2,191 while the DSES, the index that represents shariah-based companies, declined 0.13 per cent to 1,352.

Among the traded companies, 17 advanced, 136 declined and 160 remained the same.

Turnover, an important indicator of the market, hit Tk 269 crore, up by 35 per cent from the previous day's Tk 198 crore.

Islami Commercial Insurance posted the highest appreciation, rising 9.9 per cent. Union Capital surged 6.52 per cent. Pragati Life Insurance advanced over 4 per cent.

Orion Infusion suffered the sharpest fall, sliding 8.7 per cent. Intraco Refueling Station dropped 6.6 per cent, Navana Pharmaceuticals down 4.8 per cent, and Genx Infosys eroded 4 per cent.

Intraco Refueling Station was the most-traded stock on the day with its shares worth Tk 12 crore transacted. Bashundhara Paper Mills, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Pragati Life Insurance and Genex Infosys also saw significant transactions.

The Caspi, the all-share price index of the CSE, dropped 24 points, or 0.13 per cent, to end the day at 18,279.

Of the securities that transacted, 10 advanced, 42 declined, and 76 did not show any price movement.
