Foolproof security for Pohela Boishakh: DMP

Police today assured of foolproof security throughout Dhaka ahead of Pohela Boishakh celebrations – the Bangla new year.

“We have no specific threat from any quarters at the moment,” Asaduzzaman Mia, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said.

“However, we will cover Dhaka in a thorough security net to ensure peaceful Pohela Boishakh celebrations,” he told reporters at a press briefing this afternoon.

Additional forces of police, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and plainclothes from intelligence agencies will remain alert at Ramna Batamul, Dhaka University campuses and Rabindra Sarobar areas to make the effort a success.

Bangali people are almost prepared to celebrate April 14, as the first day of the Bangla New Year through chalking out different types of including cultural events.

The DMP boss also asked organiser of such programmes to finish their cultural or other kinds of events by 5:30pm on that day.
