Kalabagan explosion victim succumbs at DMCH

A woman, who was burnt in a gas pipeline explosion at her Kalabagan residence on Saturday, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital this morning.

Deceased Mamataj Begum, 65, succumbed at the burn unit of the DMCH around 6:30am, said Dr Partha Sankar Paul, resident surgeon of the unit.

She suffered 54 percent burn injuries in the explosion, Dr Paul said.  

Mamataj along with her six family members was burnt at their tin-shed house when a gas pipeline went off there.

Among the injured, five are now undergoing treatment at the hospital's burn unit while another was released after primary treatment.

The accident took place as the Wasa damaged the gas pipe at Kalabagan during their work, HM Ali Ashraf, director (operations) Titas Gas told reporters after the incident.
