IUB bids farewell to its VC Prof M Omar Rahman

A farewell programme was organised recently for IUB's outgoing Vice Chancellor Professor M Omar Rahman.

The event took place in the campus of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in the capital's Bashundhara Residential Area, said a university press release.

Members of the Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust (ESTCDT) and Board of Trustees of IUB, vice chancellor (acting), deans, members of the faculty and administration, and a large number of current and former students were present at the ceremony.

Professor Omar joined the university in 2003. Since then, he had made untiring efforts for and contributed to the development of the university.

He completed his DSc and MPH from Harvard University and became the pro-vice chancellor of IUB in 2006. Later in 2012, he became its vice chancellor.

Abdul Hai Sarker, chairman of ESTCDT; A Matin Chowdhury, chairman of the Board of Trustees, IUB; Rashed Chowdhury, former chairman of the Board of Trustees, IUB; Trustee Salma Karim, Trustee Mohammad Zakaria Khan and Prof Milan Pagon, vice chancellor (acting), among others, spoke during the farewell ceremony.

They expressed gratitude to Prof Omar for making IUB one of the leading universities in the country.

Omar, in his speech, thanked everyone for extending valuable support and cooperation during his tenure and stated that the IUB experience will benefit him throughout the rest of his career.
