Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) have been staging a sit-in blocking a road in Sylhet city protesting the murder of the university’s former student Mahid Al Salam.

Mahid was stabbed dead by muggers in Kadamtali bus stand area in the city early yesterday when he was on way to Dhaka to attend a job interview.

Taking position on the road in front of Central Shaheed Minar in Chouhatta area around 12noon today, about 500 students chanted slogans demanding punishment of Mahid’s killers, reports our Sylhet correspondent.

Some of the students also protested the killing wearing burial cloth on the road in the city.

Local leaders of ruling Awami League and BNP also joined the demonstration taking position on the road.

The students brought out a procession from the Sust campus around 10:00am and gathered on the road.
