Zayan laid to rest

Awami League leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim’s grandson Zayan Chowdhury, who was killed in the series blasts in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, was laid to rest in Dhaka this afternoon.

Zayan was buried at Banani graveyard after his namaz-e-janaza at Banani Chairmanbari field after Asr prayers, Md Imrul, personal secretary of Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, told The Daily Star this evening.

Zayan’s grandfather Sheikh Selim and other AL leaders were present at the janaza, he said.

The body of Zayan Chowdhury was brought to Dhaka from Sri Lanka this noon.

A Sri Lankan Airlines flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 12:42pm with the body of Zayan, who was killed in Sri Lanka blasts.

Zayan was killed in the series blasts targeting churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday killing over 300 people and injuring scores.

Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim is a paternal cousin to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the president of Awami League. Zayan is the son of Moshiul Haque Chowdhary, Sheikh Selim’s son in-law.

Moshiul and his wife went to Sri Lanka on holiday with two of their children. His wife and younger son were in their hotel room when the blast rocked the hotel.
