1 killed, 4 burnt in Barisal medicine plant fire

A worker was burnt alive and four others injured after a fire broke out in a medicine factory of Opsonin Pharma in Barisal city early today.

Deceased Nesar Uddin alias Payda, 45, was a painter of Opsonin Pharma, our Barisal correspondent reports quoting Saifur Rahman, in-charge of the factory in Bagura Road of the city.

The fire originated at the fourth floor of six-storey building of the factory around 2:00am which later engulfed the fifth and sixth floors, said Shawkat Hosssain, assistant director of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence in Barisal.

Nesar and the four others [identities could not be known immediately] sustained severe burns, Hossain said adding that Nesar succumbed to his injuries at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital around 6:00am hours after they were admitted.

Seven units of firefighters brought the blaze under control around 5:30am after around three and a half four hours of frantic effort, he added.
