Mother, daughter among 4 killed in Manikganj road crash

Four people including a woman and her daughter were killed and three others injured as a bus rammed into a pick up van on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ghior upazila of Manikganj this morning.

The deceased are: Shefali Begum, 50, and her daughter Nargis Akter, 26, of Manikganj Sadar; Paran Rajbongshi, 40, and Mizanur Rahman, 30, of Nagarpur upazila in Tangail.

All the four victims were passengers of the pick-up van, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

The accident occurred as Dhaka-bound bus of Shohagh Paribahan hit the pick-up van, leaving Shefali dead on the spot and other six injured around 6:30am, said Yamin-Ud-Dowla, officer-in-charge of Borongail Highway Police Station.

The van was heading for Paturia of Manikganj, OC Yamin added.

The injured were rushed to Monno Medical College Hospital where Nargis, Mizanur and Poran succumbed to their injuries, he said.

Later three other injured were taken to Manikganj General Hospital as their condition deteriorated, hospital sources said.

Police seized both of the vehicles but drivers and helpers managed to flee.
