6 Bangladeshis detained in Malaysia

Malaysian Immigration Police last night detained 28 foreign nationals including six Bangladeshi workers from Kedah state for overstaying and not possessing any valid document.

Kedah Immigration Department Director Mohamad Yusri Hashim said the workers were nabbed at two construction sites around 12:30am [local time], reports The Star, a Malaysian English daily.

They have been taken to the immigration department where they will be quizzed for their illegal stay in Malaysia.

Contacted, Sayedul Islam, counsellor (Labour) at Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, told The Daily Star over phone that the Malaysian immigration police usually detain foreigners for staying without any valid document.

“The Bangladeshis will be sentenced for temporary imprisonment like one to six months. Later, they will be deported to home,” he added.
