6 killed in Panchagarh road crash

At least six including three of a family were killed and one other injured after a truck rammed a battery-run auto-rickshaw head-on in Panchagarh Sadar upazila this morning.

The incident took place near Charmail area on the Panchagarh-Tentulia highway around 10:30am, our Thakurgaon correspondent reports quoting Mominul Haque, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station.

The Tetulia-bound truck rammed the auto-rickshaw, coming in from the opposite direction, leaving its six passengers dead on the spot and one injured critically, the OC added.

The victims were identified as Amirul Islam, 40, his wife Jesmin, 30, and their six-year old daughter Orpi, from Panchagarh Sadar, Mustafizur Rahman, 25, driver of the auto-rickshaw and one Nargis, 32. Identity of one other could not be known immediately.

A five-year old girl named Dulali injured severely in the accident was taken to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital, the OC added.

The truck driver escaped immediately after the accident leaving his vehicle.
