Road accidents kill 9 in country

- 7 killed, 2 hurt in Gopalganj

- 1 dead in Munshiganj

- 1 dead in Chuadanga

At least nine people were killed and several others injured in road accidents in Gopalganj, Munshiganj and Chuadanga today.

A microbus collided head-on with a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw and killed seven people including a child in Gopalganj around 11:00am.

The incident took place in Majhighati area, Md Salim Reza, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, told The Daily Star.

The deceased were identified as Khokon Sikdar, 45, his mother Katebunnesa, 70, wife China Begum, 40, son Shakib, 17, daughters Eneya, 16, and Eti, 7, and the driver Delwar of Teligati village in the upazila, UNB reports.

Six victims died on the spot while another succumbed on the way to a hospital, the OC said. Two others injured in the incident were also whisked off to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital.

In Munshiganj, a pedestrian was run over by a speeding bus on the Dhaka-Mawa highway around 10:30am, reports our local correspondent.

The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, 55, from Srinagar upazila. Enraged locals caught the bus and vandalised it, but the driver managed to flee.

Srinagar Police Station OC Shahidur Rahman said relatives took away the body before police could reach the spot. Due processes were in order to move a case in this connection.

In Chuadanga Sadar, a man died and another was injured after a truck rammed into a human hauler in Subdia around 8:00am, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Shafi Uddin, 24, son of Azizul Haque of in Alamdanga upazila. The injured Khairul Islam was later shifted to Dhaka for better treatment.

Sadar Police Station OC Leyakat Hossain endorsed the incident.
