7.5kg gold seized at Dhaka airport

Customs officials today seized around 7.5kg gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Two female passengers who arrived in Dhaka from Chittagong in a Bangladesh Biman domestic flight were held this afternoon, said Reyadul Islam, assistant commissioner of Customs at the airport.

The passengers have been identified as Josna Akter and Zarin Begum.

After searching their bodies, a total of 64 gold bars, weighing around 7.5kg were found hidden in their waist belts, the official added.

“The total price of the gold is estimated at Tk 3.75cr,” Reyadul told The Daily Star.
