AC bus catches fire in Manikganj

An air-conditioned bus caught fire on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Shaturia upazila of Manikganj early today.

The fired originated in a bus of K-Line Paribahan due to a technical glitch, our Manikganj correspondent reports quoting Khandaker Jannatul Nayeem, officer of Manikganj Fire Service Station.

It took an hour of frantic efforts by the fire service officials to bring the fire under control, the official said.

Owing to the incident, vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Aricha highway was halted for almost an hour, Officer-in-charge of Golda Highway Police Outpost Lutfar Rahman told the correspondent.

The bus was on its way to Dhaka from Satkhira with around 10 to 15 passengers when the fire broke out from a malfunctioning wire around 6:00am, the helper of the bus.

All the passengers were evacuated safely before the fire could spread, the official said.
