BNP urges CEC to deploy army in Khulna, Gazipur city polls

BNP today met the chief election commissioner and requested for deployment of the military in the city corporation elections to Khulna and Gazipur to ensure free and fair polls.

A six-member delegation of the BNP held an hour-long meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda at his Agargaon office around 11:00am this morning.

BNP Standing Committee Member Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain led the delegation. Others are: Nazrul Islam Khan, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Kamal Ibn Yusuf and Mahbub Uddin Khokon.

The party further opposed the use of the electronic voting  in the election and demanded withdrawal of Gazipur police Superintendent Harun-ur-Rashid on allegations of partisanship.

Elections to Gazipur and Khulna city corporations will be held on May 15.

According to the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination papers is April 12, while the dates for scrutinising those are April 15 and 16; and the last date for withdrawal is April 23.
