After Dhaka and Chittagong, dog squads were deployed at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet today to tighten the security measures.

Two dog squads along with six member of Border Guard Bangladesh were posted at the airport around 10:00am, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Lutful Karim, deputy commander of BGB battalion-5.

The dog squads have been deployed to detect explosives and drugs.

Earlier, the authorities deployed dog squads at two international airports in Dhaka and Chittagong to ensure maximum security.

The deployment came a week after the authorities had tightened security measures at the airports following murders of two foreigners and improvised grenade attacks on Hossaini Dalan in the early hours of October 25. The blasts killed two and left more than 100 injured.

On October 25, the authorities beefed up security measures at the three international airports following warning from intelligence agencies.

Apart from restricting visitors, the authorities of the airports have asked their security personnel to remain vigilant and increase monitoring in and outside the airports.

Sources in law-enforcement agencies said intelligence officials from different countries had met their Bangladesh counterparts and requested them to ensure highest level of security at the airports as some media reported the attackers used plastic explosives in the Hossaini Dalan blasts.
