ACC arrests govt official for plundering Tk 7.43cr

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today arrested general manger of Bangladesh Jute Mil Corporation (BJMC) in a case filed for misappropriation of Tk 7.43 crore.

An ACC team led by its Assistant Director (AD) Md Shafi Ullah arrested BJMC’s General Manager Jahangir Hossain during a drive in Kakrail area of Dhaka.

The other accused of the case are: BJUMC’s managers (production) Liakat Hossain and Khandakar Saiful Islam and deputy manager Akhtaruzzaman, the ACC official Shafi said.

According to the case statement, while working at the Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills Ltd in Khulna, Jahangir along with the three accused used chemicals substances to artificially increase weight of the wastage.

In this way from May 2, 2012 to August 12, 2014, the government officials plundered around Tk 7,43,91,277.

A case was filed against them with Khalishpur Police Station on December 9, 2016.

Three other accused are still at large, said Shafi.
