Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sent 20 kilograms of hilsa from the Padma river for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is going to take oath for the second term tomorrow.

The gift box is expected to reach in Kolkata this evening, reports Kolkata-based Bangla daily Anandabazar.

Industry Minister Amir Hossain Amu will represent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Mamata Banerjee`s second swearing-in ceremony.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata Zokey Ahad will also attend the star-studded occasion at Red Road in Kolkata.

Mamata is set to become the chief minister of West Bengal for the second consecutive term after her Trinamool Congress (TMC) swept this year's election by winning 211 of the 294 Assembly seats alone.

Diplomatic circles believe the gesture of Bangladesh premier of sending both hilsa and an important minister to Kolkata suggests that Bangladesh is eyeing friendship between Dhaka and Kolkata, the report added.

The deputy high commissioner also hoped that Mamata would play a positive role in strengthening the bonds between Bangladesh and India, the report said.
