‘Human trafficker’ held in Bhola

Police arrested an alleged human trafficker from his residence in Char Fashion upazila of Bhola early today.

The arrestee, Faruk Hossain, 29, is a resident of Char Mangal village, Shamsul Arefin, officer-in-charge of Shashibhusan Police Station, told our Bhola correspondent.

Following a complaint by locals, police conducted a raid at Faruk’s house around 4:30am and arrested him.

The law enforcers also detained his father Md Selim for interrogation.

During primary interrogation, Faruk confessed to police that he was a member of an “international human trafficking gang”, according to the police.

OC Shamsul said Faruk arranged sending people abroad after taking Tk 3 lakh to Tk 5 lakh.

He sent Bangladeshi people to Saudi Arabia or Malaysia via Nepal, he admitted to the local police, the OC added.

Md Mahiuddin, who is a victim of Faruk’s trafficking tricks, filed a case against the arrestee.
