At least 11 people were injured as local leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student body of BNP, clashed with police in Bogura town this noon.

Several hundred leaders and activists of BNP’s different units gathered at Khokon Park in the town this morning for a rally, marking the 41st founding anniversary of JCD.

As police intercepted some JCD men, who went to the Shaheed Minar alter in the park with their shoes, they attacked the law enforcers around 12:00 pm, triggering the clash, said Sonataon Chakraborty, additional superintendent of Police in Bogura.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sonatan Chakraborty, assistant Sub-Inspector Ashraful, constables Sifat, Mamun and Parvej were injured in the attack, he told our Bogura correspondent.

Meanwhile, Nure Alam Rigan, secretary of the district unit JCD, said they sought permission from the local police to observe the anniversary at Titu Auditorium, but the lawmen asked them to hold the programme at their party office.

“When we gather at Khakon Park from to go to the party office with a procession around 12:30 pm, police suddenly started charging baton, he alleged.

Six JCD men were injured in the police action, Rigan said, adding that the injured men are now taking treatment at different clinics in the town.

Rigan also alleged that police picked up over 20 activists of the party.

Contacted, SM Badiuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station said, police have detained around 14-20 JCD men from the spot.
