JMB trying to resurface, govt not letting: Kamal

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal says banned militant outfit JMB is trying to surface again but failed due to government’s strong vigilance. This STAR file photo shows three suspected operatives of JMB who were arrested on July 31.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) is trying to surface again but have failed due to the government’s strong vigilance.

“Occasionally, JMB is trying to raise its head. But we are not letting them do it,” the minister told reporters after a programme in Dhaka.

Kamal made the comments in response to a volley of questions from journalists regarding the overall crime scene of the country in the wake of two foreigners’ killings.

He was asked whether recent criminal activities had militant links. In response, the minister talked of the occasional efforts of JMB.

Responding to another query whether any intelligence agencies had warned the government ahead of the foreigner killings, the minister said no foreign intelligence agency had issued such warnings.

“Investigation is underway and the killers will be found out surely,” he asserted.
