Man ‘shot dead by BSF’ in Chapainawabganj

A man has allegedly been shot dead by Indian Border Security Force in Roghunathpur of Chapainawabganj, a Border Guard Bangladesh official said today.

The deceased was identified as Md Ashraful, 40, hailed from Durlovpur union in the upazila, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.

“We have found bullet injury in his back. As he is a known cattle smuggler, we assume that members of 20 BSF Battalion at Nimtita camp might have shot down him while he was returning from India last night,” said Lt Col Abu Zafor Sheikh Mohammad Badrul Haque, commanding officer of 9 BGB Battalion.

After locals found the body floating in the Padma river, they informed it to the local BGB officials. Later, police recovered the body.

The BGB has sent a protest note to their BSF Nimtita counterpart and requested for a flag meeting.

However, the BSF members are yet to send any reply, the correspondent reported quoting the BGB official.
