Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF in Chapainawabganj border

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead a Bangladeshi national inside Indian Territory near Gilabari border of Bholahat upazila in Chapainawabganj this morning.

The deceased was identified as, Jahirul Islam, 22, son of Ena Mia of Futani Bazar village under Bholahat upazila in the district.

The patrolling BSF members of Krishnapur camp under Narayanpur 44 BSF Battalion in West Bengal opened fire on a group of people including Jahirul, while they were about 200 yards inside Indian territory, Lt Col SM Salauddin, Commanding Officer of BGB 59 Rohonpur Battalion in Chapainawabganj told our correspondent over cell phone.

Jahirul died on the spot near main pillar no 200, the BGB official said adding that others in the group managed to flee.

Members of BSF took the body of Jahirul to their camp.

BGB officials strongly protested the killing and has asked BSF to return the body.

BSF will sent the body back after completion of some procedures, he said.
