Amendment to Children Act passed at JS

The Shishu (Amendment) Bill, 2018 was passed in parliament yesterday, with provision to set up one or more children tribunals in each district.

Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon placed the bill in the House, which was passed by voice vote with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The law was formulated by amending “The Children Act, 2013” .

The existing Women and Children Repression Prevention tribunals will act as Children Tribunals, which will hold trials of offences committed by children. In case of crime committed by adults and children, law enforcers have to submit investigation reports separately for the children.

MAYA COMES UNDER FIRE

Nearly a dozen lawmakers from ruling and opposition parties, yesterday questioned Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya whether his ministry took any projects to develop roads in their constituencies.

In a short reply, the minister said no such project was undertaken.
