Rab raids 15 houses in C’nawabganj, detains ‘JMB militant’

Rapid Action Battalion raided at least 15 houses in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj and detained a suspected member of the banned militant outfit Jamaa’atul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) today.

The elite force members arrested Monirul Islam, 35, to interrogate him, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent quoting Lt Col Mahbubul Alam, Commanding Officer of Rab-5.

On information that militants involved in Gulshan Holey Artisan attack were hiding at in Shibnarayanpur village, Rab-5 members raided 15 to 20 houses between 3:30am and 8:00am and detained Monirul, the commanding officer said.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE HOLEY ARTISAN BAKERY ATTACK?

On July 1, 2016, a group of armed militants stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital's Gulshan and killed 20 hostages, mostly foreign nationals.

Two police officials were also killed during the 12-hour standoff. Police held home-grown militant group “Neo JMB” responsible for the country's worst ever terrorist attack.

On July 23 this year, Inspector Humayun Kabir of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit submitted charge sheet to the court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka, accusing the eight and naming 211 people as prosecution witnesses. Humayun is also the investigating officer of the case.
