Rain respite amid sweltering heat

A much needed rain accompanied by heavy thunderstorm swept most parts of the country, including capital Dhaka this evening, after weeks of sweltering heat.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department said thunderstorm and rain were recorded in several parts of the country including the northern region.
In Dhaka, 8mm rain was recorded until 7:00pm, Omar Faruq, an on-duty official at the Met office, told The Daily Star. "Winds were recorded upto 74kmph."
The good news is, rain will pour in the coming day or two. 
Met office, in its forecast, has said rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur in places of all the divisions of the country.
Due to a trough of westerly low that lies over West Bengal and adjoining area, the sky in Dhaka is likely to ranging from cloudy to slightly overcast during the night.
The heat wave, that is still persisting now, has already compelled the government to order schools to readjust schedules considering the health of children.
FERRY SERVICES HALTED DUE TO STORM
Ferry and launch services were compelled to a temporary halt due to stormy weather.
Shafiqul Islam, a manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Daulatpur, told The Daily Star that water transport services were halted around 5:45pm, but it resumed later after the storm.
