‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rajbari cops

An alleged robber was killed in police custody in what cops said gunfight in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district early today.

The victim was Abdur Rob, 28, a local of the upazila, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

He was arrested yesterday over four robbery cases, said Abu Shama Md Iqbal Hayat Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pangsha Police Station.

Police accompanied him and cracked down on an arms stash in Gopalpur village around 1:30am with information obtained from Rob, he said.

“Near the spot, Rob’s accomplices opened fire on police. Police were forced to fire back. Rob was caught in the line of fire and later died on the way to a hospital,” the OC said.

Three policemen including SI (Sub-Inspector) Abu Sayam, SI Hafizur RAhman and Constable Rafiqul Islam were injured during the shootout, the OC said. 

The police recovered one shutter gun and four bullets from the spot.
