2 killed in Sust road crash

Two people died and three others injured in a road crash at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) in Sylhet this morning.

Ataur Rahman, a teacher of Chhatak Degree College in Sunamganj, and Giash Uddin, 65, from the locality, died on the spot, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting police.

Prof Dr Ariful Islam, 38, head of Sust’s mechanical engineering department, Abul Kalam, his driver, and another person, were injured in the crash.

The incident took place as the driver lost control over the steering wheels and hit a roadside tree around 11:30am, said Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jalalabad Police Station.

The vehicle crashed into a tree before it ploughed through passersby near an intersection at Sust, quoting witnesses the police official said.

Identities of the second victim and another injured were not available when this report was filed. 

The bodies of the deceased were kept at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue, the OC added. The three injured people were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
