Train rams three-wheeler in Gazipur, 8 killed

At least eight people including three children were killed as a train rammed their three-wheeler at an unmanned level crossing in Bakkikhan area of Gazipur this afternoon.

The accident took place when a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (Demu) train from Dhaka hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw around 2:30pm, out Gazipur correspondent reports quoting Sub-Inspector Md Alauddin, in-charge of Tongi railway outpost.

The victims, all were the passengers of the auto-rickshaw, died on the spot after the three-wheeler carrying them was hit by the Demu train, the police official said. 

Of the victims, four were identified as Shah Alam, 36, his wife Piara Begum, 30, Al Amin, 27 and Chunnu Mia. Farther details of the rest victims could not be known when the report was filed around 7:30pm.

Fire fighters and police with the help of locals recovered the bodies and later sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The level crossing was unauthorised and there was no signal bar, the police official said.
