UZ polls: Voting at all centres in Katiadi suspended over 'vote rigging'

Authorities have suspended voting at all 89 centres of Katiadi upazila in Kishoreganj following allegations of huge irregularities during the 3rd phase of upazila elections.

Voting to five polling stations was suspended over the allegation of vote stuffing at night before the elections, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting district election officer Mohammad Tajul Islam.

Later, voting to rest of the 84 polling stations was suspended over the same allegation, said Tajul Islam, also retuning officer of Kishoreganj.

Besides, Additional Superintendent of police Shafiqul Islam and Katiadi Police Station Officer-in-charge Shamsuddin have been withdrawn over the incidents of alleged vote rigging, said the election officer.

Voting in elections to 117 upazila parishads is underway in the third phase of the local body polls. The balloting that began at 8:00am will continue till 4:00pm without any break.
