Water transport workers’ strike from Tuesday

Water transport workers will go for an indefinite countrywide strike from Tuesday to press home their 15-point demand including wage hike.

“The strike will be enforced from Tuesday,” Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam, general secretary of Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation, said during a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity around 11:00am.

The workers want Tk 10,000 as minimum wage for them. Now the amount is Tk 4,150, he said.

Other demands include ensuring security in waterways and maintaining navigability.
