Customs officials seized a consignment of Viagra (weighing 26kg), valued at Tk 50 lakh, that had been imported under false declaration through Benapole land port last night, reports our local correspondent quoting the port's deputy director.

Benapole Land Port Deputy Director Abdul Jalil said, the customs authorities seized the Viagra consignment from shed number 42. Later, customs lab confirmed that the seized product was Viagra.

The consignment was imported under a false declaration by Mamoni Enterprise of Jashore. Amin Import and Export, a C&F agent, was attempting to unload the consignment from the port.

Anupam Chakma, deputy commissioner of Benapole Custom House, said that on May 31, Mamoni Enterprise imported 301 packages from India -- announcing them as "motor parts and others". The consignment was later kept at shed number 42 of Benapole land port.

Later, tests revealed that package number 114, out of 301, contained 26kg of powdered goods, said Anupam, adding that Viagra was initially detected by taking samples and examining them at the custom house's chemical laboratory.

He further said that the imported product, worth around Tk 50 lakh, has been brought into their custody from the port. In this case, necessary actions will be taken against the individuals involved, he said.
