Anti-Terrorism Unit of Police claimed to have arrested two members of banned militant group Ansar al Islam from Narsingdi and Narayanganj yesterday.

The arrestees are: Hizbullah Mia alias Rasel Ahmed, 22, and Nurul Alam, 23.

A team of ATU first arrested Hizbullah from Narsingdi's Raipura area around 3:15 pm yesterday and based on his information, they later arrested Nurul from Modonpur area in Narayanganj, said Aslam Khan, superintendent (media and awareness) of ATU.

Hizbullah had created a secret group in Telegram, an encrypted messaging app, and added members and admins including Nurul for extremist activities, he said.

It was found in their group chat that they were planning to carry out targeted killings of political and religious leaders, he claimed.

A case was filed against the duo with Raipura Police Station under Anti-Terrorism Act.
