Amber Heard under investigation for 'illegal importation' in Australia

Just out of the recent court case with famous actor Johnny Depp, Amber Heard is now facing another legal battle. According to the celebrity news website "Entertainment Tonight" (ET), Heard is still being investigated in an ongoing case related to perjury in Australia.

In a statement given to ET on Tuesday, a spokesperson from the Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment said, "The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is investigating allegations of perjury by Ms Heard during court proceedings for the 2015 illegal importation of her two dogs into Australia."

The spokesperson confirmed that the case is currently "ongoing."

Heard and Depp were married in May 2015 when her two dogs, Pistol and Boo, were brought into the country without being legally declared. This was despite the Australia's strict quarantine policy at that time.

The dogs failed to go through customs and follow Australia's 10-day quarantine policy. In July 2015, the actress was officially charged with two counts of illegally importing animals, but after pleading guilty to falsifying travel documents in court, the case was closed.

During a Jimmy Kimmel Live interview in September 2015, Depp stated, "We were under the impression we had all the paperwork done for the dogs," Depp added, "We were there with the dogs in front of everybody."

In April 2016, Depp and Heard issued an apology video where the actress apologised, saying she was "truly sorry" for not going through the legally required process.

Despite the case being closed, a spokesperson for Australia's Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment in October 2021, said "the department is seeking to obtain witness statements and once obtained, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions will consider whether the evidence is sufficient to warrant pursuance of the matter."
