Bangladesh Police theatre to stage 'Achalayotoner Apshori’

Bangladesh Police theatre will stage the first production of the play, "Achalayotoner Apshori" on Thursday at the main auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

Written and directed by Md. Zahidur Rahman, the play delves into the intriguing history and social implications of prostitution, drawing inspiration from ancient times to the present day.

The inaugural performance will be graced by Khandkar Ghulam Farooq BPM (Bar), PPM, Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and President of Bangladesh Police Theater and Cultural Club as the chief guest. Notable personalities in attendance include stage manager Ataur Rahman, Liaquat Ali Lucky, D.G. of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and drama professor Ratan Siddiqui, along with cultural figure Golam Quddus. The welcome speech will be delivered by Habibur Rahman BPM (Bar), PPM (Bar), and Additional IGP of Tourist Police.

The narrative of "Achalayotoner Apshori" unfolds against the backdrop of Daulatdia prostitution, where a young woman is sold into prostitution. Amidst this despair, a compassionate police officer emerges as a beacon of hope, striving to safeguard the rights of prostitutes and reintegrate their children into mainstream society. He renames the area from Patitapalli to "Daulatdia Rajar Purbo Para" in a symbolic act of reclaiming their identity.

However, his actions provoke the ire of the powerful, leading to the tragic execution of a young girl who had aided him and became a victim of false murder charges.

The play aims to challenge societal perceptions, evoke empathy, and shed light on the struggles faced by marginalized communities, leaving a lasting impact on its viewers.
