Cultural sector 'neglected' once again in government's proposed budget: Sammiloto Sangskritik Jote

Sammilito Sangskritik Jote has organised a protest rally at the central Shaheed Minar premises today at 5 pm to protest against the government's proposed budget for the cultural sector this year. 

Ghulam Quddus, the president of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, has expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the proposed budget for the cultural sector. Despite a slight increase in allocation compared to the previous year, Quddus labelled the budget a letdown.

According to the proposed national budget, the Ministry of Culture received 699 crores, which is an increase of 62 crores from the previous fiscal year's budget of 637 crores. However, Quddus argues that this increment falls short of the expectations and demands of the cultural workers.

Speaking out against the government's neglect, Quddus emphasised the importance of the culture sector in preserving the spirit of the liberation war, maintaining a non-communal environment, and safeguarding the culture of Bengal. He warned that neglecting the cultural sector would lead to the erosion of these vital aspects of society.

Highlighting the role of culture in shaping a progressive mindset, Quddus expressed his belief that the government should have prioritised the cultural sector with greater focus and investment. He pointed out that the degradation visible in society is a consequence of neglecting culture.
