'Drifting to the Root, Drifting to Love': Sculptor Rasha blends art, history and nature

A week-long solo exhibition by expatriate sculptor Akthar Ahmed Rasha, titled "Drifting to the Root, Drifting to Love", opened its doors at Dhaka's Safiuddin Art Gallery yesterday, inviting art enthusiasts and history admirers on an enthralling journey.

This exhibition not only pays homage to the significant Liberation War of Bangladesh but also champions the cause of women's empowerment and magnificently portrays the natural beauty that graces the country. All of this is masterfully depicted through the artistic lens of sculptor Rasha.

The event showcases a mesmerising collection of 53 art installations, each a testament to Rasha's dedication and creativity.

Rasha's artistry encompasses the use of natural elements like tree branches, seashells, and sand, all thoughtfully woven together to illuminate various facets of life in Bangladesh. Notably, his artistry has previously been showcased in several solo and group exhibitions across the United States, including notable cities like New Jersey, New York, and Washington, DC.

"I've tried to give expressions to experience of life in Bangladesh, and the process started with scavenging driftwood on beaches along the Atlantic coast. I am happy that I've focused on Liberation War, especially friends of Bangladesh abroad," the artist expressed.

The Visitors have the privilege to immerse themselves in this artistic narrative from September 7- 13, with doors open from 11 am to 7 pm.

Noted cultural personality and Member of Parliament Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the exhibition organised by Studio Vertical. Art collector Abul Khair Litu also addressed the inaugural ceremony chaired by Professor Nisar Hossain, dean at the Faculty of Fine Art, Dhaka University.
