5 reasons why you cannot miss ‘House of Gucci’

Lady Gaga has already set up predictions for an Oscar nomination for her performance.

The upcoming American movie, "House of Gucci'' has been creating Oscar buzz since its first trailer dropped in July, with Lady Gaga and Adam Driver playing the lead roles. Directed by Sir Ridley Scott, it unpacks the dark tale behind the glory of the illustrious fashion empire, Gucci, eclipsing around the murder of Maurizio Gucci orchestrated by his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani in 1995, following their doomed marriage on the grounds of intense power struggles.

The film, which is inspired from Sara Gay Forden's book, "The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed" is slated for release on November 24, 2021. Here are five reasons we are looking forward to it.

The star-studded cast

Although Adam Driver and Lady Gaga's portrayals of the Italian power couple Maurizio Gucci and Patrizia Reggiani already make a winning point, the band of other stellar artistes like Al-Pacino, Jared Leto, Salma Hayek, and Jeremy Irons taking on the roles of family members and other associates also promises to deliver to the high expectations of the audience.

Lady Gaga's staunch dedication towards her role

What else proves an artiste's passion and commitment to her profession if not the refusal to break character for 18 months at a stretch? The singer-songwriter turned actress Lady Gaga inhabited the mannerisms and voice quirks of Reggiani whilst preparing for the film. She perfected Reggiani's accent to the tee. The challenging transformation, which took a psychological toll on Lady Gaga, goes on to show her unwavering determination to prove herself as an actress, while setting up predictions for an Oscar nomination.

The riveting plot centering the darkest tale in fashion

The film follows Milanese socialite Reggiani, who marries Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of the founder of the fashion house, Gucci. Reggiani hires a hitman in 1995 to gun down her 46-year-old husband after he abandons her for another woman and sinks the family business. The fear of losing her identity as a "Gucci", along with the growing jealousy, drives her to orchestrate the notorious murder, earning her the title of "Black Widow" by the Italian media. This film, with a tale of jealousy, power, greed, and betrayal, unravels the mystery that gets her a 26-year sentence of which she serves 17, following her release in 2016.

The exquisite fashion influences

With the number of Halloween costumes that resembled the 1980's get-up of Adam Driver and Lady Gaga in chic turtlenecks and gold accessories from a photograph of them posing by the Italian ski slopes, people's appreciation for the film's fashion influences is quite evident.

The wardrobe department of the entire cast had access to Gucci's historical archive to recreate the 80's excess fashion scene through the retro clothes, dark sunglasses, gaudy jewelry and chic knitwear.

Jared Leto is unrecognisable in his role as Paolo Gucci.

If not for the ensemble cast and the acting talent, the surreal transformation of the unrecognisable Leto into Paolo Gucci in a bodysuit with facial prosthetics should definitely get you into it.
