Eid is gone. Let’s play for the rest of the year: Omar Sani

In the nineties, Bangladesh boasted over 1200 cinema halls. Throughout the year, these halls bustled with eager audiences. But as time went by, things changed. The number of cinema halls dwindled, and the once-thriving Bangladeshi film industry faced a decline in its loyal fanbase. Recently, popular Dhallywood actor Omar Sani took to his Facebook profile to reminisce about its golden era.

This year's Eid ul Azha bore witness to the release of five movies, with three of them successful in attracting audiences to the theaters. As the audience scrambled to secure advance tickets, many considered this a triumph for Bengali cinema. However, Omar Sani is still unsatisfied.

Expressing his thoughts, Omar Sani wrote, "Eid has come and gone. Now, let's play for the next 12 months, just like our seniors used to. Champa, Rubel, Naeem, Shabnaz, Manna, Diti, Omar Sani, Bappa Raj, Salman Shah, Moushumi, Shabnur, Aruna Biswas, Shahnaz, Poppy, Purnima, Amin Khan, Amit Hasan, Shakeel Khan, Riaz, Ferdous, Recy, Alexander Bo, Munmun, Misha Sawdagar, Dipjol, and Humayun Faridi- This is how our films used to be, Mega star for one Eid, don't be so boastful. Keep it up for the rest of the year."

Much like Bangladeshi audiences, Omar Sani yearns to see viewers flocking to the theatres throughout the year. He emphasised that the focus should not be limited to a few stars or megastars for a single Eid celebration but rather a consistent presence of moviegoers year-round.

"Films are for all the months of the year, not only two Eids Let's play," he concluded.
