George RR Martin reveals status of ‘Game of Thrones’ projects during strikes

Amid the ongoing strikes in Hollywood, the "Game of Thrones" creator counts himself fortunate as he remains engaged and productive.

In light of the ongoing writers and actors strike, George RR Martin, the creator of "Game of Thrones", took to his website to share the current status of the projects.

"I joined the WGA in 1986 and have been through several strikes with them," Martin wrote. He expressed the significance of this year's strike, stating, "We made gains in all of them, but some issues are more important than others … and this year's strike is the most important of my lifetime."

While commending the "unity" between the two guilds, Martin proceeded to shed light on the projects he's been involved in recently.

He revealed that "Dark Winds", the AMC series he executive produces, had already completed filming for its second season and is scheduled to return to television on July 30, with no participation from the stars or writers in promoting the show.

Regarding HBO's "House of the Dragon", Martin confirmed that filming is currently underway in the United Kingdom and disclosed, "I am told the second season is half done."

Martin emphasised that all scripts for the show were finalised well before the WGA strike began. "No writing has been done since, to the best of my knowledge," he added.

While his deal with HBO was suspended on June 1, along with other high-profile writers and creators during the strike, Martin wrote, "I still have plenty to do, of course."

"In that, I am one of the lucky ones," he stated.

"These strikes are not really about name writers or producers, or showrunners, most of whom are fine; we're striking for the entry-level writers, the story editors, the students hoping to break in, the actor who has four lines, the guy working his first staff job who dreams of creating his own show one day, as I did back in the 80s," Martin said.

Martin also shared that he's been diligently working on the stage play "The Iron Throne", which has been in development for several years. He is also simultaneously involved in various book projects, including "The Winds of Winter", a part of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy series that encompasses "A Game of Thrones".
