‘Maa’ director and producer walked streets of Cannes wearing lungi-panjabi

Aranyo Anawer's directorial film, "Maa", will have its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival today. Prior to the premiere, the director, Aranya Anawer, and producer, Pulak Kanti, were seen in the streets of Cannes wearing panjabi and lungi.

The movie will be screened under the festival's 'marché du film' (film market) at 6:45 pm local time, at the Palais de Festivals of Cannes theatre.

The director and producer of the film "Maa" walked the streets of Cannes, proudly waving the Bangladeshi flag. Embracing their roots, they adorned themselves in traditional Bengali attire, Punjabi, Lungi, and gamcha. This unique display aimed to highlight the rich heritage and distinctiveness of Bangladeshi cinema on a global platform.

Aranyo Anawer also expressed his sentiment on his Facebook account and wrote, "Marche means to market, and Marche du Film means film market. Yesterday, I spent the entire day in that market area wearing a lungi and Punjabi. I proudly sat at the Bangladeshi booth".

He also corrected those who thought he walked the red carpet in traditional attire.

"To those who mistakenly call it the red carpet, please correct yourself. I want to live by the truth. Please support me, or kindly remain silent."

"Maa" is based on Bangladesh's Liberation War, where Pori Moni plays the lead role of a grieving mother.

Previously, "Maa" was scheduled for a domestic release on May 19. However, as per the rules, a film cannot be released in theatres before its screening at a festival. Thus, the release of "Maa" in local theatres was postponed to May 26.
