A little less than a year ago, SS Rajamouli's historical drama "RRR" was released. Yet, even now, the response from fans has continued to be overwhelmingly positive. Having already bagged several prominent awards, the director has now added another to his list, having been honoured  with the 'Best Director' award at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards 2022.

A video from the event shows the filmmaker receiving the award, while the audience cheers loudly for him.

Having accepted the award, Rajamouli thanked the jury and the audience for supporting his film, saying, "You have made a lot of people take notice of a small film in South of India." He also recalled seeing the faces of the audience during his film's release. "It was pure joy of awe, like what in the hell we just witnessed. That is what I want my audiences to feel."

SS Rajamouli will also be attending the Golden Globe Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles on January 11.  While "RRR" has been nominated for 'Best Foreign Film' category, the song "Naatu Naatu"—from the film—has also been nominated for 'Best Original Song'. There will also be a special screening of "RRR" in the US on January 9, as part of the Beyond Fest. SS Rajamouli, will be present at the event along with Jr NTR, Ram Charan, and composer MM Keeravani.

While "RRR" was not initially the official submission of India for the 2023 edition of the Oscars, it was later submitted under a campaign for 14 categories.
