Shommilito Cholochitro Porishod has agreed to the importation of Indian films to Bangladesh. The film council has presented a proposal to the Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today. However some clauses to the proposal have been added.

Speaking on the matter, the Minister of Information said, "Previously the demand for importation of films had been presented by many organisations, which I had mentioned won't be possible if all the associated groups don't come to a decision."

He also added, "Similar initiatives had been taken earlier as well, which however was refuted by the Artiste's Association and even other artistes. Now all of you have come together for the agreement and have signed it, thank you for coming to a decision".

Dr. Hasan Mahmud also talked about the current state of the film industry, saying that despite the production of good films, the commercial success of the films is not enough to run the theatres. The proposal for importing Indian films will prove to be a well-thought solution that might bring audiences back to the cinema halls.

To the question of implementation, the Minister answered that the associations coming to a decision is good. If the Prime Minister permits, films will begin to be imported. He also mentioned that best efforts will be made to implement this decision, remarking that 19 film associations coming to a decision is not an easy task.
