4.2 magnitude earthquake jolts Tangail, nearby areas

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Tangail and its adjoining areas shortly after noon today.

The earthquake was felt at 12:49pm, Farzana Sultana, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in a bulletin following the quake.

The earthquake's epicentre was in Tangail, Bangladesh, 59km northwest of Dhaka Seismic Centre, the bulletin said.

There was no immediate report of casualties or damage.

People in the capital also reported feeling the mild earthquake, taking to social media soon after the earthquake hit. 

Earlier on September 9, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook Sylhet at 4:18pm.
