Afternoon rain likely in Dhaka, thunderstorms in 20 districts

Following last night's showers, there may be more rain in Dhaka in the afternoon today, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in its forecast.

Selim Uddin, assistant meteorologist at BMD, today told The Daily Star, "We recorded 29mm rainfall in Dhaka from 12:00 noon yesterday till this morning."

Meteorologist Khandaker Hafizur Rahman said, "The rain may not persist for as long [as it did on Tuesday], but there's a possibility of rain in the afternoon.

"It [rain] may occur across the country today. There may also be thunderstorms in some areas," he added.

The Met office said there was a possibility of thunderstorms in 20 districts today.

Apart from this, the river ports in the country were asked to hoist cautionary Signal 1.

"Rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary w/nw'ly gusty/squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet wherein riverports shall hoist cautionary signal no one (r) one," the Met office forecast said.
