Dhaka records 53 mm rain in 24 hours; commuters’ sufferings continue  

Torrential rain has flooded low lying areas in Dhaka causing immense sufferings of people and disruption of regular traffic flow.

Office-goers and students all over the capital suffered the most as many roads went under water and transport fare was higher than usual.

The sufferings will continue today as Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecast that intermittent rain may continue throughout the day. 

However, the situation will improve gradually, it said.

All the seaports of the country have been advised to keep hoisted warning signal number 3.

"The depression in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a low pressure and is located in Madhya Pradesh, India," Sanaul Haque Mandal, deputy director of the Meteorological Department, told The Daily Star this (September 14, 2022) morning,

"Under its influence, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy and very heavy rainfall across the country, including the capital, throughout the day today," he added.  

"Chuadanga recorded a maximum of 121 mm of rain in 24 hours till 6am today," Sanaul also said adding, "Hatia received 120 mm of rain.  The capital Dhaka recorded 53 mm of rain in the last 24 hours."
