More rain likely in 24 hrs, flood situation may improve in 6 dists

More rains are likely to drench Bangladesh in the next 24 hours, the weather department said today (July 2, 2022).

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre of the Bangladesh Water Development Board said the flood situation in Kurigram, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria districts may improve in the next 24 hours.

Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers may keep rising in the next 24 hours. Ganges-Padma keep rising, and this may continue in the next 72 hours.

Water levels of all major rivers in the northeast of the country are falling, and this may continue in the next 48 hours, said FFWC.

Meanwhile, the weather department recorded 45mm rainfall – the highest – in Chattogram's Teknaf in the last 24 hours till 6pm today.

The mercury reached 36.5 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Rajshahi, while the minimum temperature was 24.5 degrees in Rangamati.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, the BMD said.
