5 to 11 year olds get first shot of Covid-19 vaccine

A total of 16 school children, aged between 5-11 years, have received the first shot of specially made Covid-19 vaccine at an event in Dhaka today as part of the "trial run" before the main campaign begins from August 25.

Nidhi Nandini Das, a third grader at Abul Bashar Government Primary School in Dhaka's Sher-E-Banglanagar area was the first to be vaccinated at the event.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the event at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka.

Education minister Dipu Moni, US ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas and top officials from different ministries and development partner organisations attended the event.

"After today's trial run, the campaign will be held in city corporation areas and then it will be implemented countrywide," Zahid Maleque said while inaugurating the event as chief guest.
