Chattogram Medical College Hospital, the only tertiary level hospital in the greater Chattogram region, has been upgraded from 1,313 beds to 2,200.

An order from the health ministry was issued on Wednesday in this regard, said CMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Ahsan.

With the increase in the number of beds, CMCH would get the additional manpower, logistics and infrastructure step by step, he said.

At present, CMCH has to cater to 2,600 patients on an average per day, said Prof Dr Shahena Akter, principal of CMC. It becomes difficult at times to cope with the additional number of patients.
