Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), the only tertiary level hospital in the greater Chattogram region, has been upgraded from 1,313 beds to 2,200.

An order from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was issued yesterday (June 15, 2022) in this regard, said CMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Ahsan, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

With the increase in the number of beds, CMCH would get the additional manpower, logistics and infrastructure step by step, he said.

"We will also get some support including additional medicine and allocation for food for 2,200 patients from the government immediately," he said, adding, "Additional manpower would be appointed soon."

At present, CMCH has to cater to 2,600 patients on an average per day, said Prof Dr Shahena Akter, principal of CMC, adding that, it becomes difficult at times to cope with the additional number of patients.

"So the decision of the government to increase the number of beds would be beneficial for the patients," she said.
