Star journalist Nilima Jahan wins DGFP Media Award 2021

A journalist of The Daily Star was named the winner of "Media Award 2021" arranged by the Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP) today.

Nilima Jahan has been awarded for her report titled "Deplorable Sanitation Conditions in Dhaka Slums: Women bear the brunt of it".

Nilima won the award second year in a row.

The names of 11 winning journalists have been announced at the virtual programme "World Population Day 2021", organised by Information, Education and Motivation (IEM) unit of the DGFP. 

The awards have been given to the journalists for their excellence in reporting on family planning, maternal and child health, and sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) issues.

This year's theme for the day is "Rights and choices are the answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritizing the reproductive health and rights of all people."

The other winners are: Sajida Islam Parul of the daily Samakal, Rita Bhowmick of daily Jugantar, Rahim Sheikh of daily Janakantha, Jinia Kabir Suchana of Channel 24, Tahsina Sadeque of DBC News, Ziaul Haque Sabuj of Banglavision, Sakhawat Sumon of Radio Today, Hasan Sohel of daily Inqilab, Yasmin Reema of Dainik Bangladesher Somoy, and Md Emdad Ullah of daily Mainamati.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque, who was the chief guest at the programme, congratulated the winners of the programme. Each will receive a certificate, crest and prize money of Tk 50,000.
